The vacation countdown
Three more workdays before the vacation time starts. It's not going to be easy, those three work days are long and critical workshop days at the customer site. Which means a lot of hours on the job and not so much time for anything else. But I try to look at it from the bright side and I know my vacation will feel extra deserved after those 3 days.
But let's not talk about work, good things have happened during the last week. And if you follow me or Krista on Facebook, no she is not pregnant! So that is not one of the good things. Krista, however, did find a job in the neighborhood and soon all the kids in the street will know her name and fall in love with her, because she will be working at the day-care here.
Another good thing was the gig of Peter Pan Speedrock that I took Krista to, to celebrate her new job, in bar Loose. I would not even have considered once to go to a gig of them in the Netherlands (mainly because the crowd is always so lame and the atmosphere is not the kind that I enjoy, no pun intended), but here in Bar Loose the speedy rockers from Eindhoven (NED) were a good night out. There was a Finnish band called 'Bad Machine' playing as Peter Pan Speedrock's support act. Bad Machine played for a handful of people their songs and it was a bit sad to see that so few people showed up to watch them play. Even though I have to admit that band got the two most crazy dancing, most probably drunk and Finnish women dancing wildly in front of them. But more than embarrassment for the two women and a good laugh for us that didn't create.
When Peter Pan Speedrock came on the stage, the crowd had multiplied a couple times and magically a hundred headed crowd or so was watching the gig. The gig was energetic and got me fired up a bit. Except some feedback squeaks on the microphone of the singer everything was nice. Some of the crowd was pogo'ing in their little group of friends, one person dropped trou and made the band look at it (or at least the bassist saw it) and some other group of friends had their own way of dancing. A sort of chainsaw kick start and hand rubbing act including finger squeezing their own nipples and what not... Let's just put it this way, it was a diverse crowd but the overall atmosphere was good.
Krista and I took some photos of the gig. Have a look at the, in my opinion, well succeeded concert photos.
Other stuff that kept me occupied in the last couple of days were shopping for birthday presents, meeting up with a friend from Finnish class and catching up with her, cycling and gardening and going to the cinema.
Finding the 'right' birthday gift for three ladies of my family is quite a crime... Especially when they either have no clue what they want to have (mom), or when I'm too picky about what to buy a 2 year old child (my lovely niece). For my sister I already managed to buy something, but those other two gifts are still on my todo-list to be found and bought.
Yesterday Krista and I went to the cinema together to watch 'Inception'. I heard so many good stories about it, that I just had to watch it on the big screen. My expectations were quite high already of all the stories. I heard people speak and write things like "Already the best movie of this decade" (and we just started the 2010-2020 period) and "The Matrix but better". Now that I have seen it I will just say that I sincerely hope that this will not be the best movie of the decade. And except for the fact that it might beat the Matrix because of the two sequels that came after the original, but the movie wasn't that superior.
Now don't get me wrong, I liked the movie Inception a lot. It has great acting. I was specifically positively surprised with Ellen Page's performance. I know her from movies like Juno (which I like a lot), and there she plays a totally different character, but she pulled this one off quite nicely! The story is also nice and it doesn't bore you a second. Maybe one critical note is the ending. It was a bit like they skipped some scenes about how Comb (diCaprio) was possible to be awake on the airplane again. Because it was said that after the chemicals, killing yourself would have made you go to the 4th level of dreams, and Comb was for sure drowning in that van in the end. But besides that and the cheesy open ending, which makes an unhoped sequel possible, I enjoyed the movie a lot. Especially on the big screen it's quite something.
This was it for now again. I think this will be my last blog before my 2 week vacation as well. I'm going to enjoy that time a lot and I advice you to do the same. My next blog will be about my vacation so most probably a lot to read and photos to watch by then. Until then, stay safe, stay healthy and peace.
Oh and you are allowed to comment (also possible on the photos). It would be nice still and it gives me a clue who is actually reading all this stuff =)
